Coming as the first of two surprise remixes to celebrate a year of Luh’ra’s Nice EP, blaqkongo just put his own stamp on “Give It All” – and the result is a dreamy ballad turned dancefloor-ready banger.
Flipping the track on its head, the remix kicks off with AndyMkosi’s deftly rapped verse – which came at the tail end of the original – lending a punch to the track which echoes the snappy minimalism of the electronics. Pivoted off flared synth and a syncopated beat which gradually balances itself out, blaqkongo spins lo-fi progression bred for the dance floor, injecting a light horn section at the end as a nod to the original’s balanced acoustics.
Where the original leans on jazzy influence, languid melody and gorgeously rich vocalism, blaqkongo lifts things at the edges, breathing zest into a track which centers around the themes of women losing themselves in love, at the eventual expense of their wellbeing.
Luh’ra’s rich vocals shine through the wafting synth textures, delivering a gorgeously considered counterpart to an equally compelling original.
