Night one of Beyoncé’s highly anticipated Cowboy Carter Tour went down on Monday (April 28), and the show was filled with surprises, showstopping appearances, and more. Blue Ivy Carter, Bey’s first-born daughter, upgraded her role she held during the RENAISSANCE Tour to now being a full-blown mainstay dancer. The 13-year-old talent joined her mother on stage for several songs, but made sure to have her solo moment for her recreation of “Deja Vu.”
As the song’s signature opening drums and horns began to play, Blue showed off her unshakable confidence as she strutted alone down the center of the main catwalk, swaying her hips to the beat. She was then joined by more dancers as they all hit the iconic choreo from the Houston superstar’s original “Deja Vu” 2006 music video.
The B’Day song lived up to its name as many fans pointed out the similarities they see in the mother daughter duo, excitedly exclaiming it’s like watching young Beyoncé all over again. “Yes that’s her mom in her,” one viewer commented on Instagram as another added, “She definitely understands who her momma is.” One person joked on X, “Tour budget so high she got beyoncé behind beyonce.”
The spectacle was a full circle moment in more ways than one, as the original song includes a feature from her father, JAY-Z. “Deja Vu” was also the number Bey performed at the BET Awards, which is largely regarded as one of her most memorable live performances.
Another familial highlight of the night was when the “Crazy In Love” singer brought out Rumi, her youngest daughter, for a rare appearance during “PROTECTOR.” The 35x Grammy winner performed several hits from COWBOY CARTER including “II HANDS II HEAVEN,” “BODYGUARD,” “LEVII’S JEANS,” “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM,” “DESERT EAGLE,” and “16 CARRIAGES.” She also gave day one Bey Hive members an extra special homage to her early hits by interpolating classics like Destiny’s Child “Bills, Bills, Bills,” “Run The World (Girls),” “Formation,” and “Apesh*t” throughout the night.
Beyoncé gave us plenty to talk about from opening night, but the fun has only just begun. She is set to return to SoFi Stadium for four more shows, before heading to other cities like Chicago, East Rutherford, London, and more.
