Earlier this year Meek Mill announced that he will be making a show about criminal justice reform titled Free Meek where he talks, reveals and fight the criminal injustices posed by US police. The show was set to feature Bobby Shmurda who has in his latest interview with SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation stated that he doesn’t want to be part of the show although he also shares a story similar to Meek’s.

“Like I tell people all the time, I respect what he’s doing,” Shmurda stated. “I can’t do it though. I can talk to the kids, but I ain’t about to be sitting here protesting and politicking for no muthafuckin’ cops because them muthafuckas don’t care. They been killing muthafuckas since Rodney King. And people gotta realize this shit.”

Shmurda then brought up iconic civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

“I love what Martin Luther King did, but I respect him because I couldn’t do it,” Shmurda explained. “Muthafuckas hitting him with rocks, doing all types of shit, and he stayed positive. I can’t do it. So, I’ll come talk to the kids. That’s about it. But I respect everything they do.”

“‘Free Meek’ is an upcoming documentary series that will follow Meek and his fight for exoneration while exposing flaws in the criminal justice system,” states the official synopsis for the upcoming series.

“In collaboration with Meek and executive producers Shawn Carter, Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, Paul and Isaac Solotaroff, and produced by Roc Nation and The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), the series will give viewers unprecedented access to the star’s life, career, and criminal justice odyssey, while demonstrating the negative effects long tail probation is having on urban communities of colour,” the synopsis adds. “The series will premiere later this year exclusively on Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories.”
