Buoy Blaise‘s debut EP, Trailblaiser, is an engaging and refreshing six-track collection that takes the listener on a whimsical musical journey.
Blaise’s storytelling ability is truly captivating as he shares tales of love, heartbreak, and healing in a natural and warm delivery. And while there were some songs where the vocals found themselves stunted by unclear muffle, this could be improved as he matures.
The EP’s theme of space is masterfully explored, with each track crafted to convey a different aspect of the topic. From the catchy beats of “Attention”, to the sensual melody of “Impressions”, every song showcases Blaise’s musical versatility and talent. His honest lamentations over his bitter parting with his lover in the song “Bitter” are palpable in every note he sings – and though the melody is relatively simple, the pain in his voice is enough to transport listeners to a moment of heartbreak in their own lives.
Blaise’s warm lyric baritone combined with R&B elements creates a unique and enjoyable listening experience. And although the artist draws inspiration from the likes of Chloe x Halle, Iyla, and Rihanna, his style is unmistakably his own.
