Cardi B just gave another update about her long-anticipated sophomore album during a recent chat with Billboard at the Revolve Festival. “I almost want to say the name because that’s what it’ll be about,” she confessed, leaving fans wanting more. “I feel like my album is messy. She’s a messy queen.”
The rapper spilled more tea about the sound and vibe of the LP, sharing that it’s going to be a mix of the “unexpected and the expected,” with tracks that’ll keep you guessing. “I feel like it’s unexpected and I feel like it’s something that’s not really out right now,” she said. “It’s gonna be things that people do expect me and a lot of things people don’t expect from me.”
Cardi says this album will be deeply personal, reflecting the highs and lows she’s experienced in life — some of which fans have witnessed. “I’ve been heartbroken and then I’m loving again,” she said, hinting that the project will showcase a range of emotions.
The announcement comes after Cardi made headlines for declaring that she wouldn’t be dropping an album in 2024. After a fan poked fun at her ongoing delays on X, Cardi clapped back, explaining that she was taking a break from the pressure and focusing on herself. “Anyway NO album this year I don’t care I’m relaxing this year… Dropping these features I already committed to and traveling and enjoying my summer,” she wrote, giving fans a moment of pause.
The mother-of-three released her debut album Invasion of Privacy in 2018, which boasted hits like “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It” featuring J Balvin and Bad Bunny. Last year, Joe Budden took to X, throwing shade at an unnamed artist after their much-anticipated album drop was once again pushed back. He wrote at the time: “Wonder if I’ll get an apology for saying _____ wasn’t dropping an album this year lol.” Fans quickly speculated that Cardi B is the artist he’s talking about.
“We’ll never get another album again. I am standing on it,” he declared. On his self-titled podcast, he went as far as to suggest that Cardi’s career was shifting toward just releasing singles. “Cardi got something dropping with my man Rob[49] on Friday, but that’s what Cardi’s gonna be now. A single artist,” he assumed.
Cardi didn’t take kindly to his remark and fired back hard at the retired rapper. “Bro I gave you a lap dance two times in Starlets. You was high as f**k. High as f**k on coke, ni**a… I don’t give a f**k when people talk sh*t about me,” she said. “It’s the fact you always talk sh*t about me Joe Budden. Out of nowhere, you would think I did something to this ni**a… For the past two years, this ni**a has only talked bad things about me.”
“Every five or six months you comparing another female rapper towards me, you compare new artists, old artists, every single f**king artist with me, bro,” she continued. “If you love these bi**hes so much, why are you not talking about their album? You compare females to me that my worst records beat their best records. I don’t give a f**k about none of these bi**hes.”
“You really want my album to come out so you can criticize it,” she added. “Cause every time I drop something you don’t like it. Every single time a bi**h drops something and they doing mediocre, you say they doing better than me… What are you talking about? The sh*t is in motion. Merch is in motion, the box sets is in motion. You don’t know sh*t.”
