Cardi B Defends Her Choice To Include “WAP,” “Up” On Next Album

Cardi B‘s sophomore album has been a topic of conversation for several years, mainly due to the significant amount of time that has passed by without it. However, now that she officially announced its release date and title, critics have moved on to another point of contention: the inclusion of “WAP” and “Up” on the project although the songs came out in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

On Wednesday (June 25), the Bronx rapper responded to the critiques, which were generally based on the assumption that the songs’ numbers would disproportionately bolster the LP’s success upon release. “WAP” is 8x Platinum and “Up” is 2x Platinum, leading many to believe her forthcoming project, Am I The Drama?, will possibly be eligible for Platinum status automatically. The album is set to release on Sept. 19, 2025.

The “Be Careful” spitter took to X to explain her decision and attempted to shut down the hate once and for all. “This will be the last and only time I’m gonna address this.. WAP and Up are two of my biggest songs, my fans have been asking me to put them on an album, and people search for them on IOP all the time… they deserve a home,” she wrote.

The mother of three also revealed she let the naysayers convince her to miss out on a potential Grammy nod in the past, but now she’s no longer letting them influence her big music-related decisions, adding, “I let haters make me not submit WAP for the Grammy’s and at this point I’m giving my fans what they want!”

She ended by telling the haters to deal with her choice: “These two songs don’t even count for first week sales so what are yall even crying about??? Do ya say anything when all these artist pull out all their little tricks and ponies to sell out??? Exactly….Now let them eat cake. Go cry about it!!!”

The highly anticipated project is a follow-up Cardi B’s widely successful 2018 debut album, Invasion Of Privacy, which boasted mega-hits like “Bodak Yellow,” “I Like It” featuring J Balvin and Bad Bunny, “Bartier Cardi” featuring 21 Savage. It garnered her a Grammy win the following year for Best Rap album and landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It’ll be a tough act to follow, but considering Cardi has had years of preparation, her next delivery is anticipated to blow her fans out of the water with special collabs, new flows, and more. She has already released a sneak peek with “Outside” last week.
