Colman Domingo and Cynthia Erivo are up for career landmark wins, as the Academy announced the 2025 Oscar nominees on Thursday (Jan. 23) morning.

Domingo is nominated for Best Actor for his role in Sing Sing, marking back-to-back nominations in the competitive category, per The Hollywood Reporter, after he made history in 2024 as the first Afro-Latino to be up for the award for his performance in Rustin. The last actor to earn a nomination in the category back-to-back was Denzel Washington, receiving a nomination in both 2017 and 2018 for Fences and Roman J. Israel, Esq. respectively.

Furthermore, Colman is the only actor nominated this year across all categories who was also in the running last year.

For Erivo, winning Best Actress for her portrayal of Elphaba in Wicked (also nominated for Best Motion Picture) could cement her in history, not only as the first Black woman to take home the trophy since Halle Berry in 2002, but as the youngest entertainer to achieve EGOT status.

She previously won an Emmy, Tony, and Grammy for her acclaimed performance as Celie in the revival of The Color Purple on Broadway.

Other notable nominations this year include Nickel Boys for Best Motion Picture, Zoe Saldaña, and Ariana Grande in their first Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress, and Kris Bowers for Best Original Score for Wild Robot. Additionally, Emilia Pérez sets the record for most nominations for a non-English language film at 13.

The 2025 Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and will be televised live on ABC and streamed live on Hulu. Conan O’Brien will host the prestigious event.
