Damon Dash is in jeopardy of losing his ownership rights to various films, including the landmark 2002 release State Property.

Filmmaker Josh Webb has asked the court to step in and hand over the copyrights to several films produced by Dash in an attempt to receive payment from multiple lawsuits filed against the mogul.

Webber and his film company, Muddy Water Pictures, have requested the authorization of a sale of Dash’s remaining assets, most notably his movie catalog, to cover unpaid fees and damages. The films in question include State Property, State Property 2, Honor Up, and Mr. Untouchable.

The judgements, stemming from a pair of lawsuits alleging Dash’ supposed copyright infringement and defamatory comments regarding his involvement in the 2019 film, Dear Frank.

Filed in 2019, the lawsuit accused Dash of misrepresenting the film as his own after being booted from the production over various differences with Webb.

The filmmaker ultimately was granted a $805,000 ruling in that case, and would later be granted a $4 million judgement against Dash from a lawsuit filed in 2024, as he claimed comments made by Dash during an appearance on the Earn Your Leisure podcast resulted in him losing a multi-million offer to direct a Billy Bob Thornton film.

Webber and his legal team have complained about Dash’s lack of cooperation regarding the request of financial documents throughout their legal battle and is asking the court to compel the Harlem native to relinquish all requested records to Webber.

Earlier this year, the plaintiff also asked for a force sale of several of Dash’s personal items, including an engagement ring, several Roc-A-Fella chains, and an assortment of other jewelry to cover Dash’s unpaid debts.

Released in 2002, State Property starred Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek, and several members of Roc-A-Fella’s Philadelphia-based collective, State Property, including the Young Gunz, Oschino, and Omilio Sparks.

The film, which is considered a cult classic in Hip-Hop circles, also included appearances by JAY-Z and Dash himself.
