Dell Curry (born 25 June 1964), sometimes known as Wardell Stephen Curry I, was a renowned professional American basketball player who competed for NBA franchises from 1986 to 2002.
He developed a passion for sports early on. He played baseball and basketball while in school. However, he decided to pursue basketball professionally after seeing success while playing for his school team.
After having some success in Virginia Tech’s college-level games, Dell Curry joined the NBA and played for several franchises. He became known for being an expert at long-range shooting. He set an NBA team record for scoring during his tenure with the Charlotte Hornets.

Early Life & Education
Wardell Stephen Curry was given the name Dell Curry on June 25, 1964, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States. Harrisonburg was where he spent the majority of his youth. His parents’ identities remain unknown. He was up in a small Grottoes community with four older sisters.
He has a strong passion for athletics early in life. In the Virginia town of Fort Defiance, he attended the Fort Defiance High School. He was more interested in sports than academics when he was in school.
While still in high school, Dell Curry won state championships in basketball and baseball. He regularly practiced shooting in his coach’s barn. He was chosen by The Texas Rangers in the high school draft. He participated in the ‘NIT’ competitions in 1983 and 1984, placing third in the latter.

Dell Curry entered Virginia Tech after completing his education there, where he amassed 295 thefts to become the all-time leader in basketball.
Dell Curry participated in baseball and basketball while attending Virginia Tech. But later in his career, he concentrated on basketball. After completing his junior year at Virginia Tech, he was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the fourteenth round of the 1985 Major League Baseball draft.
His final totals for his tenure at Virginia Tech were 2389 points, and 295 steals, making him the second and all-time leader in those categories, respectively. Dell Curry attended Virginia Tech for four years, where other stars of his generation, such as Perry Young, Keith Colbert, Bobby Beecher, and Al Young, were also stars.

His NBA career began when the Utah Jazz selected him as the 15th overall choice in the 1986 NBA Draft. Before moving to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1987, he only spent one season in Utah. He played for this team during the 1987–1988 season.
He was chosen to play for the Charlotte Hornets, one of the two newest teams included for the 1988–1989 season. Dell Curry stayed in Charlotte for the following eight years. He used to typically come off the bench during games to provide immediate offense.
