After an airplane crashed and landed upside down, the company is offering passengers monetary compensation — and some think the amount could be higher.
According to CNN, Delta Air Lines Flight 4819 caught fire and flipped over upon landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday (Feb. 17), with 76 passengers aboard, and 80 people total counting crew members. While everyone survived the traumatic incident, 21 passengers were taken to the hospital and have since been released.
“The Delta and Endeavor families are grateful that all those injured Monday have been released from the hospital, and we extend our thanks to everyone who provided care to them over the past few days,” shared Delta CEO Ed Bastian in a statement on Thursday. “We will continue to connect one-on-one with customers, employees, and loved ones as we move forward to make sure their needs are met with care.”

The airline has since offered to pay the passengers $30,000 each, approximately $2.3 million in total.
“Delta Care Team representatives are telling customers this gesture has no strings attached and does not affect their rights,” a spokesperson explained in a statement to the news outlet.

The five-figure amount as the initial payment for experiencing a plane crash sparked conversation across social media with many suggesting the number should be higher. Journalist Phil Lewis shared the news of the $30,000 on X, drawing several reactions.
Journalist and media personality Speedy Morman shared audio of Kendrick Lamar rapping the “It’s not enough,” lyrics from the chart-topping “TV Off.”
One user explained, “It’s not about the fact that you walked away unharmed, it’s about the fact that 30,000 is literally $30 to Delta lol they’re being cheap,” after another shared that they would be satisfied with the money.
Another account commanded, “Nah imma need at LEAST $100k,” using an image of Onijah Robinson, the woman who refused to leave Dubai and requested monetary payouts from their government.
