DeVon Franklin is ready to tie the knot one last time.
The film producer proposed to his girlfriend, celebrity trainer Maria Castillo, in December 2024 while on vacation. Exclusively reported by PEOPLE Magazine, the 46-year-old surprised his 29-year-old partner with an engagement ring and formal proposal during a photo shoot outside The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua.
“Finding Maria has been one of God’s greatest blessings in my life, so I wanted the proposal to be as special as our love,” Franklin explained to the outlet. “We went to Maui for vacation, I told her we were gonna do a photo shoot and during the photo shoot, I surprised her with the proposal! It was truly a magical moment and I can’t wait to spend a magical life with Maria!”
During the heartwarming moment, Castillo reacted by shouting “Wait!” and “Baby, what are you doing?!” before the shock wore off with her eventually saying yes.
“I’m still in awe of how it all happened! It was such a beautiful surprise, and I can’t even put into words how happy I am,” described Castillo. “To know I’ll be spending the rest of my life with this incredible man is a dream come true. Here’s to forever with the love of my life!”
According to PEOPLE, the couple made their red carpet debut at The Pink Awards in Georgia on Oct. 12, 2024, however, Franklin did not publicly confirm their romantic involvement until the following month at the 14th Annual Merge Awards.
“Yeah, this is my date [but] this my girl. It’s critical to give [that assurance],” he shared at the time. “Sometimes, you know, you say ‘date,’ and it’s like, oh, yeah, cool. But that implies a moment. When I’m saying, ‘Hey, this is my girl,’ I’m saying that’s a commitment. So I think it’s very important when we make a commitment to be okay with verbalizing that, vocalizing that, especially in relationships.”
