Diddy, who’s gearing up for his highly publicized sex trafficking trial, is getting a bit of a wardrobe upgrade for the courtroom. The Bad Boy mogul, currently incarcerated, reportedly petitioned the court to be allowed to wear suits during his trial instead of the usual prison jumpsuit.
According to court documents, his request has been granted and he now has permission to bring in a selection of clothing for his court appearances including “five button-down shirts, five pairs of pants, five sweaters, five pairs of socks, and two pairs of shoes without laces.”
Throughout the pretrial hearings, Diddy has been seen in his prison uniform.
Ahead of the trial beginning in just a few days, he and his legal team are still fighting several issues with the government, including the high-profile nature of the case. One of the key matters Diddy’s legal team is battling is the public discussion of the case by prosecution. The mogul has asked the judge to prevent attorneys from speaking about the sex trafficking allegations in public, arguing that it could unfairly influence the jury pool and jeopardize his right to a fair trial.
Diddy’s team is particularly concerned about statements made by Cassie’s attorney, Douglas Wigdor, who spoke out about the security footage that shows Diddy assaulting his former girlfriend in a hotel corridor. Wigdor referred to the footage as “gut-wrenching,” further condemning Diddy’s behavior.
“The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light,” Wigdor stated to the public. The 55-year-old father-of-seven has also been filing motions to exclude the footage as evidence from the trial.
The music mogul’s trial is set to begin on May 5 with jury selection and opening statements on May 12.
