DJ Speedsta Claims People Are Tired Of Amapiano. DJ Speedsta believes a shift is happening in South Africa’s music scene — and amapiano might finally be losing its chokehold on the streets.

“I think people are tired of Piano,” he said. “And I say this with the utmost respect to what they’re doing and their move. But I think people are just tired of Piano.”
While he acknowledged the massive cultural impact of amapiano, Speedsta pointed out that the constant repetition may be driving listeners toward alternative spaces. Events like Kunye, Strictly Soul, and his very own the Hip Hop Floor are gaining traction, and for good reason, according to the DJ.
“Let’s go to Kunye, let’s go to Strictly Soul, let’s go to the Hip Hop Floor,” he said. “People have, like, you know what, let’s actually go to places where we have something different. Because everywhere you go, you hear Piano.”
The dominance of amapiano over the last few years has undoubtedly reshaped the industry, but Speedsta hinted that other genres — especially hip hop — are now being approached with renewed interest, even if the relationship remains strained.
“So what’s kind of happened is like okay, now it’s like guys, give us a chance, we’re sorry,” he said, referring to SA Hip Hop’s past gatekeeping. “You know the game is still mad at us. They are like no no, you guys didn’t let us in when you were hot.”
