Drake joined the lookalike contest craze and gave the winner a handsome monetary reward.
The Drizzy lookalike contest went down over the weekend in Toronto, where tons of Aubrey clones descended upon Apt.200 for the festivities, organized by Casual Cakery founder Lillianna Brown.
Brown put together an award, the “Toronto Manz” pack, consisting of a bottle of Hennessy cognac, Backwoods cigars, and a beef patty, as the original prize for the event. Drake caught wind of the event and put his stamp of approval on it in only a way that he knew how: a $10,000 award to the winner.
Videos shared of the event showcase all the varieties of Drakes throughout his career, with almost every incarnation appearing, from Scorpion to Certified Lover Boy. The multiversal event also included fun and zany interpretations of the Drake character from “Montreal Drake,” “Stylish Drake,” “Pigtails Drake,” “Her Loss Drake,” and even a PNB Rock-Drake mash-up. And no, there were seemingly no BBL Drizzys at the event. But none of the Drake clones held a candle to a “Girl Drake,” who took home the first place prize, drawing roaring cheers from the crowd.
It was later revealed that Makayla Chambers was the true identity of “Girl Drake.” She spoke to the Toronto Star about her win at the lookalike contest and what it meant for her. “It feels great. I feel like I made it.”
Brown also spoke to the importance of putting on an event celebrating Drake in his hometown, saying, “This is all about Drake, this is all about his fans,” Brown expressed. “This is the community gathering. We’re just honoring and loving the Champagne Papi and the 6 God!…Trust me; I was a fan of Drake since elementary school,” Brown said. “This is a big fan moment.”
