Kendrick Lamar and SZA brought the Grand National Tour to Toronto this past week, sparking internet speculation about the expected attendance and potential Drake retaliation. His only public reaction came via a DM to Canadian politician Jagmeet Singh, who attended the show, but expressed his regret after being deemed a “goof” by the “Nokia” artist.
“I went for SZA, not Kendrick,” the leader of the New Democratic Party wrote on his Instagram story on Sunday (June 15). “I was born in this city. I love this city. But real talk, I get it. I shouldn’t have gone at all. OVO and Drake have lifted up this city and *Canadian flag emoji*. For me it’ll always be Drake over Kendrick. *Peace sign emoji*.”
Video of Singh at the show circulated online, causing Drizzy to jump in his DMs and tell him, “You’re a goof.” To make matters worse for the 46-year-old politician, the Toronto superstar shared his insulting message on his Instagram story. Given all of the talk about Toronto concertgoers yelling lyrics to “Not Like Us” both in the Rogers Centre and at restaurants in the city, the “Nokia” artist was seemingly especially bothered by a local politician “betraying” him.

Drake allegedly unfollowed Jagmeet Singh on Instagram, adding him to a long list of people that the RIAA record-breaking artist has removed from his following list. Some of the biggest names are LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan, both of whom attended Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out concert in June 2024 and expressed their public support for K. Dot’s music.
DeRozan’s “betrayal” especially stung Drake, as he was there to support him when he got traded from the Toronto Raptors to the San Antonio Spurs. DeRozan claimed that he and the 6 God were still cool, but Lamar was his family.
He doubled down on supporting his fellow Compton native by appearing in the “Not Like Us” music video, partially because he was referenced in the song. “I’m glad DeRoz’ came home, y’all didn’t deserve him neither,” the Pulitzer Prize winner rapped about the Sacramento Kings hooper.
