Drake made a statement during the opening night of his Anna Max Win tour, showing that even if he did lose the battle with Kendrick Lamar—he’s still very much alive.
While entering the AC Arena in Perth, Australia on Tuesday night (Feb. 4), Drake could be seen descending the arena steps wearing a hoodie that displayed “bullet holes” with real smoke billowing from the back. The striking visual clearly is a response to the ongoing debates about K. Dot ending Drizzy’s career with his Grammy-winning diss “Not Like Us.”
Beyond the fashion theatrics, Drake also had a direct message for his audience, reminding them of his longevity in the game. “I love you dearly,” he told his fans. “My name is Drake, I started doing music in 2008, I come all the way from Toronto, Canada. The year is now 2025, and no matter what, Drizzy Drake is very much alive.”
The “Family Matters” rapper’s statement comes just days after Kendrick dominated the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday (Feb. 2), taking home five trophies, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Not Like Us.” Following Lamar’s historic win, social media had a field day speculating that the victory was “another nail in the coffin” for the 6 God.
Others begged to differ. Kanye West (now known as Ye) publicly dismissed the idea that the Toronto icon should be “counted out” after losing a rap beef to the Compton impresario.
While hosting a Grammys afterparty on Sunday (Feb. 2), the Yeezy creator previewed clips from an upcoming interview with Justin LaBoy where he gave his take on Drake and Kendrick. “I was like, ‘Man, you killed my nemesis,” he said. “Where’s the movies if it ain’t no Drake? Or at least he took him down for a little bit. You know in superhero films, maybe it’s like one of the characters like Wolverine or something just goes away for a couple films.”
Ye’s answer seemed to surprise many, as his prior stance was far more sinister.
In another interview with LaBoy, the Vultures artist admitted that he was happy to take part in the “elimination of Drake” along with K. Dot, Future, Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, and whoever else. He even released a remix to “Like That,” the diss that was considered the “first shot” in Drake and Kendrick’s on-wax beef.
Regardless of the noise, Drake seems to be keeping his focus on his tour, which is set to run through March 16. The Live Nation-produced show will make stops in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane before wrapping with back-to-back shows at Auckland’s Spark Arena on March 15-16.
