Elon Musk wasted no time being vocal about what’s going on in the Oval Office after officially leaving the Donald Trump administration. He called the recently passed agenda bill a “disgusting abomination” and called out everyone who supported it.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” the 53-year-old businessman wrote on X on Tuesday (June 2). “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
Musk cited how the bill would negatively affect national debt, writing that it will “increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion” and “burden American citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt.” This is quite the shift for the Tesla CEO, who was a top Republican donor during the 2024 elections. He previously expressed that the “massive spending bill” conflicted with and “undermined” the work he was doing in the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk made it clear that he wasn’t going to stop at just tweets either, writing, “In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”
Donald Trump’s new agenda bill was fully supported by Republicans in the House of Representatives and unanimously opposed by Democrats, who were notably kept out of the negotiation period. The bill will be passed along to the Senate, which is also dominated by Republicans, before it ultimately makes its way to Trump.
The bill includes an extension of his 2017 tax cuts, tips and overtime pay no longer being included in federal income taxes, funding cuts on Medicaid and stricter work requirements on able-bodied adults, cuts to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), a huge boost to military spending, and much more.
Elon Musk’s opposition comes days after he removed himself from Donald Trump’s administration. Activists had been protesting his involvement in the Oval Office operations, given his right-wing politics and his electric car company, Tesla. His disconnection from the White House hasn’t stopped the protestors, though, as The New York Times reported that they showed up in over 50 Tesla showrooms and other company locations to continue their efforts over the weekend.
