Fantasia Barrino-Taylor is ready to enter a new lane. The 40-year-old vocalist detailed plans to release new music and venture into gospel sounds. In a video shared across social media, she described how she is no longer “running” from the spiritual genre.
“God has been telling me to do a gospel album for years, and I’ve been running,” detailed the mother of three. “But the world right now is dark, it’s a lot going on… I get to see a lot in the industry. And so I want to give my Father, who’s been so good to me, back what he deserves.”
The clip continued to highlight behind-the-scenes moments of the album’s creation, including studio sessions with additional vocalists.

“Someone asked: Why are you scared? I replied because my Abba actually means everything to me and my posture has to be different,” detailed the singer in the caption.
Fantasia’s last full album release was 2019’s Sketchbook, which features a dozen tracks and a T-Pain feature. While a release date has yet to be shared for the aforementioned gospel project, her website notes upcoming tour dates in Columbus, Ohio, Hollywood, FL., Detroit, and more.
“Because I know what I want at 40, and I know what I don’t want,” she explained to ET last year as she reflected on the two decades between her landmark American Idol win. “Sometimes, we have to wake up in the morning and realize that, one — we woke up, and two — you can’t forget all the things that are around you and to look at the blessing in that. So at 40, I’m at peace, baby.”
