Ghislaine Maxwell‘s lead prosecutor has joined the sex trafficking case against Diddy. On Monday (Dec. 2), Maurene Ryan Comey, the daughter of James Comey, the former FBI director, filed legal paperwork in the Southern District of New York. Comey notified the court that she would be joining the team prosecuting Sean Combs amid an incessant grand jury inquiry that could potentially yield a more aggressive indictment.
Maurene Ryan Comey is best remembered as one of the lead prosecutors who scored a conviction against Maxwell in 2021. That case found Ghislaine Maxwell guilty of working with Jeffrey Epstein in a conspiracy to abuse and traffick minors.
Combs notably hired Bobbi Sternheim, one of Maxwell’s defense lawyers, in 2023 to defend him. However, Sternheim has yet to appear on the ongoing criminal case and, according to Meghann Cuniff, doesn’t appear to be actively working on Diddy’s civil case at the moment.
The news arrives on the heels of Diddy’s legal team finally securing a small win in court. AllHipHop reported that U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian sided with Sean Combs in one ruling, telling prosecutors on Monday that they would need to show an affidavit confirming they’re not responsible for leaking information to the press.
“With this order in hand, both sides can make sure that anyone involved with this case or the related investigation understands what they are not permitted to disclose,” the judge wrote in an official statement. “To be clear, this order isn’t based on a finding that there has been any wrongdoing thus far, as the Court has made no findings at this juncture relating to the defendant’s allegations that information related to the case has been leaked.
“The point of this order is to help ensure that nothing happens from now on that would interfere with a fair trial.”
Combs’ team previously accused prosecutors of divulging details to the public, which they have argued has resulted in “prejudicial media coverage.” Diddy’s legal team states that the leaks to the media have thrown Combs’ right to a fair trial in jeopardy.
The Combs family departs from the Southern District of New York Federal Court after a pre-trial hearing for Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs on October 10, 2024 in New York City.
