The film which is based on a novel (Happiness is a four letter word) by Nozizwe Cynthia Jele  stars Khanyi Mbau who plays the role of a trophy wife, Zaza, Mmabatho Montsho  who plays a perfectionist lawyer, Nandi and Renate Stuurman who plays serial dater, Princess.
Mbau hinted last year that there would be a sequel for Happiness is a Four Letter Word which is set to be release this year.
The opening of the romdrama saw 45 000 attendances, grossed R2 371 782 in its first weekend and ranked top 3 after Deadpool and Vir Altyd. The romdrama was the best performing film as it beat international releases in its first weekend back in 2016. It beat films such as 13 Hours, Secret soldiers of Benghazi, Hail Caesar!, 50 Shades of Black and Trumbo.
Ster Kinekor’s CEO, Mario Dos Santos had this to say about the film: “The opening weekend’s results for the film are simply overwhelming not only  from local content perspective but also in comparison to Hollywood content. Rewarding for the whole Happiness is a Four -Letter Word team that great films get a positive response from audiences,”
The following year (2017), Khanyi Mbau spent R95,000 for another cosmetic surgery and documented the procedure on a TV show titled The Scoop, according to TshisaLive.
Mbau was hospitalised for a liposuction, breast-implants and a waist reduction procedure.
The actress stated: “In a few moments, I will be drawn up, put into a bed and given anesthetic and I am worried. I get worried about anesthetic because I hate the groggy feeling of coming out and I always worry… I don’t like not being in control. I love knowing what is happening around me. So, I am a little worried about that.”
It’s unknown when the sequel will be released at this stage or whether all three ladies will be coming back to the hit-film at this stage.
