Meet The Wild Low. Founded by former Climate Control bandmates Nic and Luca, the project was formed after the duo reached out to some of their friends in the South African metal scene and started work on a long-overdue collaboration.
The result is a diverse partnership consisting of members from OneDaySky, Newtown Knife Gang, Red Helen, Dream Demon, Middle Grounds and Treehouse Burning, and their self-titled debut EP is by no means subtle.
Tongue firmly in cheek, lead single “Carrot Kate” is aimed at being loud and fun, with a rowdy visual accompaniment that is proudly sub-par. It’s one long take of Nic and Luca wearing paper masks, performing crude dance moves as they are slowly joined by the rest of the band, who all do and look the same. And the rest of the album is similarly rof.
Opener “Phats Waller” (feat. Brandon Render) pairs heavy-metal tendencies with an emo-punk chorus hook, while “Maul Of The South” is a heavily contrasted switch between sentimental melody and head-pounding rock.

But this duff offering is exactly what it wants to be – no illusions of grandeur, just some first-rate debauchery amongst friends.
