South Africans are in for more hours in the dark as Eskom has announced that stage 6 load shedding will be implemented on Monday, 4 July 2022, with other stages of the rolling blackouts to continue throughout the week.

The power utility has been struggling to keep the lights these past few weeks, mostly due to an ongoing workers strike at some of its stations. Unions representing staff have already met with Eskom which tabled a wage offer on Friday.

“Depending on several possibilities – including the workforce fully returning to work to conduct much needed repairs to equipment – it is anticipated that loadshedding will gradually be lowered to Stage 2 by the weekend. Eskom will communicate and implement any changes as may be necessary”

“Stage 4 is currently being implemented until midnight. Stage 2 loadshedding will then be implemented until 05:00 on Monday morning. Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented at 05:00 until 16:00. From 16:00 until 22:00 Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented, before it is lowered to Stage 4 until midnight”

ESKOM: STAGE 2, 4 AND 5 LOAD SHEDDING FROM TUESDAY

Eskom has said that stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented from midnight until 05:00 on Tuesday, before increasing to stage 4 from 05:00 to 16:00. Stage 5 loadshedding will then kick in from 16:00 until 22:00. Loadshedding will then be lowered to stage 4 until midnight.

“We currently have 3 384MW on planned maintenance, while another 18 319MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns. Eskom thanks all workers who have reported for duty and who continue to perform diligently under extremely challenging conditions,” Mantshantsha added.

The utility has reminded citizens that load shedding is only implemented as a last resort meant to protect the national grid and has urged customers to continue using electricity sparingly, especially during this undertain period.
