After many months of leaks and speculation, Huawei has taken the wraps off its Huawei P40 series of smartphones. Along with the new devices, the company also revealed a new smartwatch dubbed Huawei Watch GT2e. As the name suggests, it’s a new variant of the Watch GT2 featuring sportier design and being more affordable than its predecessor.
The “e” model is based on the 46mm version of the GT2 and has the same 1.39-inch AMOLED display with 454×454 pixels of resolution. The bezels, however, are thicker. The watch measures 53.0 x 46.8mm compared to 45.9 x 45.9mm from the GT2. Another important change is the integrated TPU wrist band, it is perforated to improve breathability. The new watch features stainless steel construction and is rated at 5 ATM water resistance.
The company states that the Huawei Watch GT2e can deliver 2 weeks of battery life thanks to the power-efficient Kirin A1 SoC. It’s another of Huawei in-house made chips, this one clearly focused in smartwatches. If you’re using GPS tracking for exercises, the watch can last a total of 30 hours. Another option is listening to music over Bluetooth, then the battery will hold 24 hours of usage. The watch has 4GB of storage which can hold at least 500 songs.
The Watch GT2e has a big focus in the sport activities
The GT2e can track all sorts of exercises – from skateboarding to rock climbing, from surfing to street dance. Moreover, you can take it for a swim both in a pool or open water. While you’re at home, you can use treadmills, elliptical and rowing machines. Huawei wants to ensure that this new smartwatch is enough for all your exercise needs.
The SpO2 sensor allows the watch to calculate your VO2Max (higher readings show better endurance). It’s also able to monitor aerobic and anaerobic workouts. As the watch tracks your progress through your weekly exercises, it will report training intensity and the recovery times. Moreover, there’s a feature called TruRelax. It will help you to manage stress with breathing exercises, another feature will monitor your sleep. It is able to detect 6 common types of sleep issues.
Pricing and availability
The new smartwatch will be available in Graphite Black, Lava Red, Mint Green, and Icy White. As we mentioned above, it will cost €200.
Along with the new smartwatch, the company announced a new color option for the Watch GT2 42mm – Champagne Gold Edition. This model will be priced €230, which puts it between the GT2 46mm (€250) and GT2e (€200).
Unfortunately, there’s still no word when the new smartwatches will be available for purchase.
