I did menial jobs, performed for N5,000 to feed my family – Shallipopi

Nigerian singer, Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has opened up about his financial struggles before making it in the music industry.

In a recent post on X, he shared his experiences of taking on menial jobs to support himself and his family.

Shallipopi shared that he had been to all 36 states of Nigeria, toured various towns in the country, taking on odd jobs to make ends meet.

He revealed that he had done  bricklaying, painting, working in a workshop, ran a communal house at night, going to clubs in Benin to freestyle for a modest fee of N5,000 so he could give to his mother.

In his words:

“I have been to the 36 states of Nigeria touring towns to eat, I nor know which part of Nigeria you come from, but u nor suppose dey talk to me about shame, buckle up this country nor dey laugh with anybody! Period!!!

“I don do bricklayer, painter, we don work for workshop, i don do POP, I don do plastering work, I don dey run commont house for night go club jokers for Benin go dey freestyle just to carry 5k reach house come give my mummy.”

Shallipopi’s post came after he was slammed for saying money is essential for manhood.

He had suggested that having money is a key aspect of being considered a man, and those who don’t have it might be viewed differently.

He wrote: “Na money make u be man, if u nor get join the ladies set.”

He had also criticized men who prioritize love over financial stability, implying that they are outdated in their thinking.

If u like no get money, dey find babe, u fit say life na 2014,” he wrote.
