I’m the greatest of my generation – Omah Lay declares, netizens kick

Afrobeats star Omah Lay is unapologetically making bold claims on social media.

The Boy Alone singer, whose real name is Stanley Omah Didia, took to his X (formerly Twitter) account this week with a confident, eyebrow-raising declaration that has sparked serious debate online.

“Hi guys! My name is Omah Lay and I am the greatest of my generation. I don’t have proofs right now but there will be a lot in the future.

Thanks.
Yours truly,
Boy Alone.”

The post has since gone viral, triggering conversations around artistic greatness, self-belief, and who truly holds the crown among Nigeria’s new wave of Afrobeats stars.

Omah Lay’s comment hits differently because his generation is packed with heavy hitters like Rema, Fireboy DML, Asake, BNXN, Tems, Ayra Starr, and more. Each one has carved out a unique lane in the global Afrobeats takeover, making the “greatest” title highly contested.

Some fans also compared his statement to past declarations made by Burna Boy, who famously declared himself the “African Giant” years before the world agreed.

Some applauded him for speaking greatness into existence, while others felt the comment was premature. See some below:

If there’s one thing Omah Lay has in abundance, it’s quiet confidence. This isn’t the first time the Soso hitmaker has hinted at his legacy.

Last year, during an interview with The Beat FM, London, the Port Harcourt-born artist boldly stated that he was going to be “one of the leaders of the new generation of Afrobeats artistes.” He also claimed to have developed a “new sound” that he was determined to make mainstream.

I’ve created something different,” he said at the time.

It may not be fully understood now, but it will be. I want to lead this next phase of Afrobeats.”
