But for the unreliability of Nigerian airlines and an intense traffic, Nollywood actress, Ini Edo, would have been among the congregation at the collapsed Reigners Bible Church, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
The church building collapsed Saturday during the bishopric consecration of Apostle Akan Weeks.
The actress on Sunday night penned an emotional Instagram note, explaining that she was meant to be present at the church service and even did everything within her power to make it, but to no avail.
Edo wrote:[tooltip id=”4500c2f113202943ff1ae30d00c9d4ac”] [/tooltip]“Two days ago, I was very bitter about the unreliable nature of some of our airlines cancelling flights without prior notice thereby hindering my plans to attend a church service ceremony held in Uyo.
“Now out of determination, I took a flight to Calabar with the hope of being in Uyo just in time for the service since the journey between Calabar and Uyo was just about an hour. The journey ended up taking over 7hrs because of an unexplainable traffic. No accident, good road no hitches just a headlock traffic.
“Whilst in the car, I started wondering why all my efforts to be at the service was being thwarted. Then I got a call, that the entire church building had collapsed during the course of the service. Once again, God had saved me.
“My heart goes out to the families of the departed. May the good Lord grant them the heart to bear the loss,” the actress added.
Emmanuel Udom, governor of the state, was billed to be in the auditorium when the tragedy occurred, but he arrived late and instead joined in the rescue of victims.
So far, not less than 200 people have been reported dead from the tragic building collapse.[tooltip type=”box” html=”Input Your Content Here” box_background_color=”#eeeeee” box_opacity=”0.95″ box_padding=”10″ box_border_color=”#3F3F3F” box_border_width=”1″ box_border_radius=”0″ id=”4500c2f113202943ff1ae30d00c9d4ac” /]
