Apple iPhones are one of the most attractive globally. The company has so many loyal customers that it is not really worried about the price of its devices. The latest iPhone 14 series has only been on the market for about two months. Nevertheless, there is already a long list of rumours regarding the next-gen iPhone 15. We still have about ten to eleven months before the launch of this device. Recently, 91Mobile gave a summary of the relevant information regarding the iPhone 15 series. The iPhone 15 series is expected to be another major design adjustment for Apple. In addition to switching to the USB Type-C port, the edges will become more rounded. Also, there are reports that all iPhone 15 models will get the Smart Island function.

Top reports regarding the iPhone 15 series

1. Round Edges

According to reports, the glass panel on the rear of the iPhone 15 series will use a round design. It will be visibly different from the flat design in the current iPhones. There are already some renders of this device showing the round rear. This will not be the first iPhone to use a round rear, the iPhone 15 should be reminiscent of the iPhone 5C. Of course, it will not use the plastic design of the iPhone 5C. Apparently, the focus here is primarily on the design of the cases in the current MacBook models based on the M1 and M2 SoCs.

Some time ago, Apple switched its notebooks to a design with a flat, sharp-edged top and round edges on the bottom. The computer company is now pursuing this approach with the iPhone 15. The current iPhones are still based on regular iPhone designs over the years. The edges on the top and bottom of the smartphone are “cut straight”. Some providers of Android-based devices have now adapted this concept for their products. After all, Apple once again set the standard in terms of design. As usual, the new information on the design of the iPhone 15 should be treated with some caution. There is no confirmation that the iPhone 15 will adopt the round edges of the MacBook.

2. Use titanium alloy material

There are also reports that the middle frame of the iPhone 15 series will use a titanium alloy material. However, it is possible that this feature will be limited to the Pro series. This change should make the Pro models lighter compared to stainless steel iPhones. Combined with the rounded edges, it even makes the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max easier to hold and feel better in the hand.

3. All models to support Smart Island

One of the biggest changes in the iPhone 14 series is the addition of the Smart Island feature. Unfortunately, only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max supports this feature. This feature ensures that the punch-hole area in the display does not go to waste. It makes full use of the area. The dynamic island automatically moves its shape according to different notifications such as battery charging, music, calls, etc. Thankfully, the report on the iPhone 15 series says that all models in the series will support this feature. Thus, the low iPhone spenders can also have the opportunity to test the Smart Island feature.

4. USB-C port

Apple has no choice but to swap to the USB Type-C if it still wants to sell its mobile phones in Europe. Apple is currently under regulatory pressure in countries and regions such as Europe and India, so it may switch to USB-C ports. However, for Europe, it has up to the iPhone 16 before it swaps. However, it appears that Apple will not wait for the iPhone 16. The company will most likely introduce the USB Type-C port on its iPhones for the first time in the iPhone 15 series.

5. Physical buttons

A few days ago, there were reports that Apple will ditch the physical buttons for a Taptic Engine that simulates volume and power buttons. However, the report claims that this feature will only arrive in the Pro models. According to MacRumors, the iPhone 15 Pro, which should arrive in September next year will not come with physical volume buttons and the On/Off button. According to  Cirrus Logic, Apple “is working with a strategic customer to bring a new HPMS component to market in smartphones next year“. The term HPMS stands for High-Performance Mixed-Signal Chips. It refers to a chip that is included in the iPhone’s Taptic Engine among other things. According to claims made by the company’s CEO, this chip should be available in the H2 of the next year. A time frame that, coincidentally, falls within the release of the newest iPhone.

6. 3nm chip

The iPhone 15 series may also be the first mobile phone in the world to use a 3nm chip. According to industry sources, chips that uses the 3nm process will not launch until the second half of next year. This is just in time before the official release of the iPhone 15 series. Apple will then likely be the first vendor to boast of building next-gen chips into its devices.

3nm chip

The American multinational company has an exclusive deal with Taiwanese chip maker, TSMC. TSMC is ahead and set to pip Samsung to launch the 3nm manufacturing process. The Apple Bionic chips in iPads, iPhones and even PCs are all manufactured by TSMC. Qualcomm and MediaTek are also partners of TSMC. Their flagship chips will probably also use TSMC’s 3nm process. However, Apple will come first while they will follow later.
