The IT Operations Senior Manager is a key member of the IT Management Team and oversees all IT infrastructure and services. Primary responsibilities include the procurement, provision and ongoing support of the general computer systems infrastructure, which is the lifeblood of our business and operations. This includes, inter alia, SAHL’ hardware and servers, Production and Development and DR platforms, networks and connectivity, telephony platforms, data centres, operating systems software, user and desktop hardware and software. The Ops Manager leads the team that is responsible for the implementation, management and technical support of all IT infrastructure and services, including an IT User Support Desk for device management across our systems.
The Ops Manager must firstly be an energetic leader who can communicate a vision for a highly productive environment, which will inspire and enable both his staff and his professional colleagues to achieve their best. As a leader, the Ops Manager must demonstrate a calm and collaborative approach to addressing and solving problems, often through leading cross-functional teams of technical experts. As important as these ‘soft skills” are, the role also comes with highly technical and mission critical responsibilities, hence the “hard skills” which require a combination of technical savvy, a relentless attention to detail and a strong process orientation. Dealing effectively, and maintaining commercially astute and win-win relationships, with external vendors and service providers is a critical aspect of the job – this aspect requires the financial savvy and the negotiation skills of a businessman.

· Provides the day-to-day technical supervision and management of all production systems and databases, user support and all other IT infrastructure and IT operational processes. This covers all the different aspects of technology necessary to support modern financial institution, including not only production databases, but also all hardware and servers, local and country-wide networks, operating systems, PC and desktop support, print and terminal servers, branch access to IT, email and internet, document imaging, firewalls, IT policy and security etc. · Manages relationships, budget allocations, cost allocations and service/delivery expectations across all stakeholder groups – including all business departments.· Responsible for the Infrastructure Capacity Planning and Software Licensing management to create a stable, cost-effective & secure ICT infrastructure· Cybersecurity is a critical area of focus, which increasingly will require more skill, focus, and innovation. This includes, but is not limited to, Network and Data Security· Infrastructure Performance management and the development of performance metrics· Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with operational policies and procedures· Maintains computer operations and network capabilities by utilising a combination of internal resources and external vendors· Business continuity and disaster recovery: Is responsible for developing and maintaining a strategy for disaster recovery including hardware, software, data and processes. This includes a strategy for data back-ups and recovery procedures, off-site storage, DR environments, systems roll-backs, security procedures, etc.· Focuses on our business as the customer: ensures that users have access to the appropriate IT services and capabilities to support their business functions· Management of the procurement of all IT-related purchases
Adheres to corporate policies in change management, incident management, and information security
Resolves highest level IT First Line Support escalations
Oversees hardware upgrades and installations
Negotiates and manages Vendor Contracts
