Jackie Chan is ready to reprise his role as Detective Inspector Lee in the Rush Hour franchise now. Speaking with ScreenRant, the actor confirmed that the process to create the fourth installment is taking longer than he had hoped.
“I don’t know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer,” Chan relayed. “Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour.“
He continued to elaborate that he would sign on for the film adding, “Yes! And I want to do [another] Shanghai Knights, Shanghai Dawn. Shangai Noon, Shanghai Knights, and Shanghai Dawn. The script is still going on. I want to do a Rush Hour 4.”

The 71-year-old also spoke on the action films with Buzzfeed, ranking them from favorite to least favorite.
“I don’t know,” he exclaimed in the platform’s puppy interview series. ” “You know what, the first one: little money, little time. We shot it like, ‘Go, go, go, go!’ The second one: a lot of money, a lot of time. The third one: too much money, too much time. Too much money is no good.”
In December 2022, the Chinese movie star teased that Rush Hour 4 was potentially in the works.
“We’re talking about part 4 right now,” Chan explained at the time, adding that he had set a meeting with the film’s unidentified director later in the evening to go over the script.
He has been hinting at continuing the franchise since at least 2017 when he shared, “The script probably at the end of this month will have a second draft and next year, probably start, if…Chris Tucker agrees.”
In 2023, Tucker shared that he was down to return to his role of LAPD detective James Carter among other project after Chan yet again mentioned the idea according to Variety.
“You’re going to see a lot of good stuff coming, but it’s going to be on a whole other level,” Tucker detailed. “That’s what I like… I’m excited about that. It’s not going to be what you’ve normally seen… Rush Hour 4, that’s something I definitely will probably drop in there because I love working with Jackie, but I’ve got some new stuff that I think you’re really gonna like. I’m excited about it.”
