Jeannie Mai opened up about the realities of her life after divorce in a new interview. While speaking with Sherri Shepherd on Monday’s (March 24) episode of The Sherri Show, the 46-year-old reflected on being a single mother. Mai is the parent of 3-year-old Monaco, whom she shares with rapper Jeezy. The former couple finalized their divorce in 2024.
“Shoutout to all the moms out there, especially the single moms, because it’s never what you picture,” exclaimed Mai. “You don’t ideally think to have a child and have that whole responsibility to yourself but…you learn how to trust yourself.”
“You know exactly what your daughter needs in love; you know exactly how your children need to be seen and heard. And so I’m reparenting myself through Monaco and I’m learning that I always had it—I always had what I needed.”
After their divorce was finalized, all details regarding the settlement, child support agreement, and parenting plans were kept sealed, noting “that the harm resulting to the privacy of the parties and their child, if the documents were made public, clearly outweighs public interest in these specific documents.”
Earlier this year, Jeezy accused his ex-wife of “nefarious actions” and demanded she pay $20,000 to cover the legal fees that he was required to spend during the divorce process. Jeannie Mai and Jeezy tied the knot in March 2021 in an intimate ceremony in Atlanta.
The “Seen It All” rapper filed for divorce in September 2023, with Mai claiming, “At the time, when I found out at the same time as the rest of the world that my marriage was ending in divorce, I was gutted.”
