Jessie J is standing by the title of her new song “No Secrets” — literally. The singer recently let her fans in on a deeply personal chapter of her life, as she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer.
In true Jessie fashion, she shared the news with honesty and a little humor. In a candid Instagram video posted on Tuesday (June 3), Jessie explained that she had been going “back and forth” about whether to speak publicly, but ultimately decided to share with her supporters.
“I want to share it with my fans and the people that care about me, and also I’m a sharer,” she said. “I’ve always shared everything that I go through in my life. Before ‘No Secrets’ came out, I was diagnosed with early breast cancer.”
The timing is especially poignant, as her song “No Secrets” dropped in April, just as she was navigating the emotional weight of her diagnosis. In her video, the “Bang Bang” belter emphasized the word early, acknowledging that, while cancer is frightening in any form, she’s clinging to hope and gratitude for doctors catching it soon.
Jessie joked that she’s “getting to keep [her] nipples,” calling it “a very dramatic way to get a boob job.” On a more serious note, she shared that she’ll be stepping away from the spotlight for “a lil bit” after Capital’s Summertime Ball on June 15 to undergo surgery. Still finding light in the moment, she added, “I will come back with massive t*ts and more music,” before quipping, “No (more) Secrets and is it too soon to do a remix called ‘Living my breast life’?”
Without completely turning the news into a standup comedy, Jessie made it clear that humor is the way she copes with real life issues. “All jokes aside (you know it’s one of the ways I get through hard times), this last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on alongside it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible perspective. BUT… your girl needs a hug.”
