Jim Jones Takes Credit For Nas’ “Viral” Moment After Comparisons

Jim Jones is making headlines for his recent remarks about Nas, calling into question the rap icon’s cultural relevance and long-term impact. In a string of interviews, the Harlem native suggested that while Nas is respected, his own solo career has connected more with younger audiences and has had a stronger presence in the current Hip-Hop landscape.

During a recent appearance on the BagFuel podcast, Jones claimed that his recent commentary helped make Nas viral — something he says hasn’t happened since the “Ether” days. “What I did for Nas recently probably has never been done in his life. Last time he was in some viral sh*t like this was when he was getting at JAY-Z.”

He added that while he hasn’t spoken to Nas directly, he believes the wave of discussion surrounding his comments has brought new attention to the Queensbridge rapper.

The conversation first gained traction on the Joe & Jada podcast, where the “Ballin” rapper discussed how his perception of Nas as a fan evolved as he entered the rap game.

“I was a superior Nas fan but when you get into the game you realize your idols be rivals,” he said. “My son can’t tell me one Nas record.” Jones also pointed to his chart history and sales, noting, “Check my track record, then check everybody else’s… I been spanking a lot of this sh*t.”

Following his remarks, he then appeared on Nightcap with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, where he elaborated further, acknowledging Nas’ influence in the early days but questioning how far that reach extended over time. “

He had a little bit of a run,” he said. “Nas always came up second to [JAY-Z] and DMX.” While he gave credit to Illmatic, Jones added, “He kind of lost me after the movie Belly and sh*t like that.”

Nas has not responded publicly to the comments, but the discussion ignited debate online with majority defending Nas’ legacy.

“Jim has really lost his mind because…. what?!” one Instagram user commented as another said, “Jim is too old to be this thirsty for attention.” A fourth person on YouTube wrote, “Jim Jones not even better than Cam and Juelz Santana and that’s his own clique. How can even be in the same sentence as Nas lol.”
