Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has rubbed many people the wrong way over the years. Jimmy Kimmel is seemingly one of those people, as he recently expressed his wish for Will Smith to have slapped the Chicago producer while at the 67th Annual Grammys this past weekend.
The 57-year-old host reflected on Groundhog Day during Monday night’s episode (Feb. 3) of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and cleverly transitioned to discuss the Vultures artist. “Another rodent came out of his hole to hit the red carpet at the Grammys last night—none other than Kanye West,” Kimmel joked. Ye and his wife Bianca Censori caused commotion due to her revealing outfit and subsequently being escorted out of the event, which was later confirmed to be untrue.
Nonetheless, his presence was not welcome by all. “She was wearing nothing,” Kimmel continued in his opening monologue. “This shows you just how much times have changed. Before [Donald] Trump, this would have been our whole monologue tonight. Now it’s like the ninth craziest thing that happened this weekend.”
“And you know what’s a shame?” Jimmy Kimmel asked the studio audience. “Will Smith, all he had to do was run out on that red carpet and slap Kanye. I think all would be forgiven. He would be hosting the Oscars next year.”
It is worth noting that Ye was invited to the 67th Grammys as his track “Carnival” with Ty Dolla $ign, Rich The Kid, and Playboi Carti was nominated for Best Rap Song. Nonetheless, he left after walking the red carpet and briefly linking up with Kai Cenat.
The multi-time Grammy winner ruffled more feathers over the weekend with one of his signature rants on X. He suggested that he would have had sex with Kamala Harris before she lost the election because he doesn’t engage with “losers” anymore. Less than an hour later, he intimated that Democrats asked him to take the post down before revealing he was joking because they no longer have power over him and he is a lifelong supporter of re-elected President Donald Trump. Ye eventually deleted the tweet about Harris and apologized. Read below.
