Anticipation continues to build for the fourth and final season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and VIBE is treating fans to an exclusive sneak peek of the premiere episode. As season three left off with Unique (Joey Bada$$) being left for dead after being beaten senselessly with a metal bat by his own brother, fans were left wondering if he’d survive or not.

However, gangsta’s don’t die.

In the premiere teaser, a battered Unique sits across from new character, Early Tyler (Chris Redd) as he expresses that all he can think about is getting revenge. As Early urges him to capitalize on his presumed death, he suggests he remains in the shadows so he can identify those who betrayed him. “You got a damn superpower at the moment, man. You invisible,” he says. “Everybody think you dead and gone. Why you want to go and f**k all that up?”

He also emphasizes the “advantage of surprise,” hinting that Unique should lay low and pay attention to those who try and fill the void left by his absence — in belief that it may reveal who’s responsible for his downfall.

Unique, however, is resolute and reveals a personal betrayal. “I don’t need to let none of this settle because I already know who did it. It was my own f**king brother, man,” he says with rage. Early counters his assertion, suggesting that Unique’s brother, Ronnie (Grantham Coleman), may not have acted alone.

Early also mentions the “advantage of surprise” stating, “Look, point is, element of surprise is the biggest advantage there is, and you got that sh*t in spades right now. All I’m saying, you ain’t paying me sh*t, so I got to protect my investment. My investment is you, ni**a. You get took out, all my money dead with you.”

Unique then agrees, only if Early does some reconnaissance for him. See below.

Speaking of his character returning to the screen this season, Joey told VIBE, “It’s interesting because this is Unique in a way we’ve never seen him before. We’ve seen him down bad and have to shake back, but we’ve never seen him suffering from an injury, a brain injury specifically, that has changed and altered how he shows up as a human being. He’s a little bit more of an unhinged version of himself, and he’s not able to think the same way he [normally] would.”

“We know him to be a calculated person, and I think we can still expect that, but I think he’s operating from a different side of his brain,” he further explained. “Where before it was more logical, I think we see a more emotionally impulsive and charged version of him.”

The upcoming season premieres on Friday (March 7), and not only sees Unique juggle being a ghost and making his presence felt, but Kanan struggling to define his identity amidst working with his mother Raq (Patina Miller).
