Johnny Gill has fans everywhere experiencing FOMO after footage from his Memorial Day/birthday party popped up on social media.
The star-studded affair had actor Flex Alexander on the turntables and featured performances from Gill, Shanice, and Jeffrey Osborne. The latter serenaded guests with a soul-stirring rendition of L.T.D.’s “Love Ballad” — that sounded just as good as the original recording.
The New Edition member put a fun spin on Luther Vandross’ “Never Too Much” and was joined by Anthony Anderson, Jazze Pha, and Kenny Lattimore. Later on, he sang Vandross’ “Bad Boy/Having a Party” with Cedric The Entertainer and Judge Greg Mathis.
A bulk of the footage came from Entertainment Tonight co-host Nischelle Turner, who captioned one video, “Johnny called and said I’m having a little get together at the house come on over… Didn’t know it would turn into a legendary karaoke concert! Legends assembled and a TIME WAS HAD!”
However, there were many angles to indulge in. Shanice also joined Gill in singing their 1991 duet, “Silent Prayer.”
In addition to “Love Ballad,” Osborne also performed “(Every Time I Turn Around) Back In Love Again.”
Fans couldn’t get enough of the A-list cookout. One commented, “I would’ve paid to experience this.” Another praised Osborne, writing, “Jeffrey Osborne sound EXACTLY Like his records!”
Someone else replied, “Looks like Johnny Gill know how to throw a party.” It was also officially dubbed an “Unction.” As videos continued to surface, Gill confirmed, “We had a freaking blast!!”
Gill is set to join Charlie Wilson, El DeBarge, and K-Ci Hailey on the R&B Cookout tour later this year.
“This tour is unlike anything I’ve done before,” Wilson shared in a statement. “As someone who truly loves R&B, getting to share the stage with my friends Babyface, K-Ci, and El is something I’m really looking forward to. I’ve been performing for so long that my audience isn’t just made up of fans, it really has become a family. Over the years, I’ve come to recognize so many faces, and we’ve grown together through the music. The R&B cookout is gonna be one big family reunion for us and our fans.”
The tour kicks off in Los Angeles on Aug. 27.
