R. Kelly has requested a pardon, but Joycelyn Savage‘s family is fully against that because they believe she’s still under his control, according to Gerald Griggs, an attorney representing the Savage family.
He told TMZ they’re fighting back against Kelly’s request to be pardoned by Trump because they haven’t heard Joycelyn since 2019.
In 2021, Savage’s parents, Jonjelyn and Timothy, told TMZ that they tried to reach out to the now 29-year-old when her grandfather died and had to go through Kelly’s team to get in touch with her. “No response whatsoever,” said her father.
Her mother chimed in, addressing Joycelyn: “We need to hear from you directly. We’ve always heard from third-party information.” Timothy added, “Everyone always wanna say she’s grown. Let me hear from a grown woman.”
Jonjelyn described that Joycelyn’s main method of communication as “prison calls” meaning “the calls are scripted and [monitored].” Her parents pleaded to have a private conversation with Joycelyn “as a family” especially considering Kelly is in prison.
“All these enablers need to move aside,” Timothy stated.
Beau Brindley, a rep from Kelly’s legal team told TMZ that they’re “not willing to discuss Joycelyn right now because they want to focus on the singer and what’s happening to him.” Kelly was recently hospitalized and was previously “forced” into solitary confinement.
He’s hoping to be pardoned or at least be placed under house arrest. Kelly noted that Trump may grant his request because “he knows how it feels.” Federal prosecutors labeled his pardon efforts as “deeply unserious” and “repugnant.”
The crooner was convicted in 2021 of racketeering and sex trafficking in a New York federal court. The following year, he was convicted on charges of child pornography and enticing minors for sex in Illinois.
