Late Nollywood actor Pope Odonwodo, aka Junior Pope, has been honored with a posthumous award by the Enugu state governor, Dr Peter Mbah, a few months after his untimely death.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the report was revealed on Tuesday by producer Nani Boi, who shared the news on Instagram, describing the late actor’s legacy as enduring. Nani Boi wrote:
Posthumous award to the late great Junior Pope. Forever Green In Our Hearts. Thanks to the Enugu State Government via the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Junior Pope lives on.”
He also attached pictures of when he was receiving the award plaque on behalf of the deceased. Fans got emotional in the comments of the post, recalling the tragic incident and drama that took place after the actor’s death.
Junior Pope tragically lost his life on April 10, 2024, alongside other colleagues, in a boat collision while returning from a movie shoot in Asaba.
The award is part of the inaugural Nollywood Legends Awards, which aims to honour late stars and living legends in the industry.
Other late stars nominated include John Okafor (Mr. Ibu), Enebeli Elebuwa, Sam Loco, Saint Obi, Moji Olaiya, Ada Ameh and Muna Obiekwe, among others.
In other news, Nigerian singer Ice Prince has revealed he is the first African artiste to receive BET award on stage.
The rapper made the disclosure during a recent interview while speaking on his personal experience as well as his achievements.
Ice Prince clarified that while many believe Davido is the first African artiste to receive the award on stage, the notion is wrong.
