A viral video captured chaos at a marriage negotiation after the bride’s family, reportedly from Mbaise, Imo State, insisted on a staggering N1 million payment before giving their daughter’s hand.

The incident reignited long-standing claims that Mbaise families are notorious for demanding steep bride prices, set social media ablaze with debates and stereotypes.

Kanayo, a proud son of Nru Umueze Oboama Ezinihitte, in Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, stepped in with a bold rebuttal.

As an elder well-versed in Mbaise traditions, he dismissed the sweeping generalizations, stated that bride prices vary, some high, some low, depending on the value each family places on their daughter.

Captioning his clip, he wrote;

“Bride price is relative in igbo land
And varies from family to family. It is also dependent on the value attracted by the girl…. It is not peculiar to ndi Mbaise.

In a fresh clip, the Nollywood veteran revealed that his once-impressive 2.3 million follower count had mysteriously plunged to 1.9 million over the past 7 to 8 months.

The sharp decline did not sit well with him, especially as he noticed a similar trend affecting other creators.
