The last time we heard from Ye on X (formerly Twitter), he was passionately defending Diddy, dubbing himself a Nazi, insulting women, and offering many other errant thoughts before ultimately deactivating his account. Well, the artist formerly known as Kanye West is back on the app, and has walked back one of those thoughts.
“After further reflection I’ve come to the realization that I’m not a Nazi,” he tweeted on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 19). This post had no buildup or context, as far as X goes, as his tweets prior were thanking Adam Sandler for showing him love and analyzing the existence of hermaphrodites.
There are some potential motivations for this change of heart, though. After his latest anti-semitic rants, which included promoting swastika merch on his Yeezy website, the Chicago producer was sued by one of his Jewish employees, dropped by his talent agency 33&West, had his website disabled for violating Shopify terms, and had to witness Ty Dolla $ign, his longtime collaborator with whom he recently released two albums, publicly denounce his behavior. Even West, at his most unhinged, seems to still understand that losing out on money and enduring litigation requires him to pump the brakes.
Two weeks ago, Ye’s tune was very different. “F**K ALL OF YOUR F**K A** UNFAIR BUSINESS DEALS [ANY] JEWISH PERSON THAT DOES BUSINESS WITH ME NEEDS TO KNOW I DON’T LIKE OR TRUST ANY JEWISH PERSON,” he wrote in a now-deleted post on X. “[AND] THIS IS COMPLETELY SOBER WITH NO [HENNESSY].”
He claimed he was never apologizing for his Jewish comments, even though he did so in December 2023. “I CAN SAY WHATEVER THE F**K I WANNA SAY FOREVER,” the Vultures artist added. “WHERES MY F**KING APOLOGY FOR FREEZING MY ACCOUNTS, SUCK MY D**K, HOWS THAT FOR AN APOLOGY?”
His rants, which occurred all through February, hit another level the weekend of Super Bowl LIX. He specifically discussed Kendrick Lamar and how the Compton rapper was allowed to perform during the halftime show, despite having assault allegations leveled at him during his Drake beef, whereas Diddy was behind bars due to his pernicious allegations of assault, rape, trafficking, and more. Charlamagne Tha God believed that West, who later admitted Lamar’s halftime show was his favorite since Michael Jackson, was jealous that K. Dot was able to take down his foe, Drake, and was experiencing so much success.
“We do realize Kanye has been acting out all week because he’s envious of Kendrick’s moment, right?” Charlamagne asked his comrades on The Breakfast Club. “He wishes this was him, because Kendrick is having a moment for being a prolific artist who took out his number one opp, Drake. Kanye wishes that was him in this moment, so he’s been doing all these antics for attention all week because he’s trying to get people to do exactly what they’re doing right now, and that’s talking about him.”
