Keke Palmer‘s explanation behind her shelved podcast interview with Jonathan Majors has sparked major discourse on X, but not for the reasons you may think.
The veteran actress appeared on The Breakfast Club and was asked about the controversial sit-down. He was set to come on her podcast, Baby This Is Keke Palmer, back in April. Palmer explained, “Obviously, Meagan [Good] is my girl. I’ve grown up loving her. She’s honestly a mentor to me and a representation for all of us young Black women. I mean, I was happy for her to get married. I was excited to have the conversation.”
She continued, “I’m here to be unbiased. You don’t agree with everything they did. You don’t love everything, but you got to have the conversation. You have to set the stage for them to speak and for people to watch and take what they want to take from it, so that’s why I was open and excited to do the interview.”
Majors was convicted of assault and harassment stemming from a 2023 domestic violence case involving ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Palmer’s team pulled the episode “based off of the reaction” of having him as a guest. “People felt it was insensitive. I always want to be respectful and understand where everybody’s coming from,” she noted. “At the end of the day, I felt as a journalist, I’m supposed to talk and let the public decide how they want to feel. But that didn’t get a chance to happen.”
The discourse started after some questioned why she labeled herself a journalist.
“Contrary to popular belief, having a podcast and owning a blazer does not make you a journalist lol,” one person tweeted.
Others defended Palmer, citing her work as a talk show host. Yet, the resounding stance was that she’s not a journalist and having lengthy résumé doesn’t equate to such. Check out some of the conversation below.
