Lefty Gunplay had the biggest moment of his career with his feature alongside Kendrick Lamar on “tv off” back in November 2024. Now, the Compton rapper has given his fellow LA lyricist another seal of approval, only this time for his new album Can’t Get Right.
Jason Martin, formerly known as Problem and co-collaborator on Can’t Get Right, shared a screenshot of text messages with K. Dot about the album. “Mission accomplished,” he wrote with the salute emoji. The Pulitzer Prize winner responded with enthusiasm and praise.
“Wow Ni**a yall did that!!!” he wrote. “I appreciate this too much dawg. The first album of a new artist from gnx. And it’s going up. I’m bout to thump it out here. I’m proud of lefty. And always love for u playing big roles behind them boards.” Read below.
Lefty Gunplay and Jason Martin’s Can’t Get Right is a 15-song project featuring The Game, Ty Dolla $ign, Negra, YS, and more. Gunplay and Kendrick Lamar also might have more new music on the way. “He has some stuff. We did two, three songs,” he told Bootleg Kev in a recent interview. “He has some stuff in the chamber. He told me that we’re going to work again, for sure.”
Gunplay stated that Lamar is putting out a GNX deluxe album at some point, but he isn’t sure when due to the multi-time Grammy winner being so secretive. He revealed just how discreet K. Dot prefers to be when working on music when he said he had to sign a non-disclosure agreement about his feature on “tv off” from GNX.
“Everybody thought that I was playing — I wasn’t, though, as much as I wanted to tell everybody,” he said. “I almost blew it. ‘Cause we signed NDAs and I couldn’t wait to tell everybody […] They were like, ‘You’re going [in the studio] with Kendrick’ and it didn’t hit me ’til he walked in there and gave me a hug. He’s been locked in with me since April and he said that I’m the missing piece that the West Coast needed.” It was well worth it, as “tv off” reached a peak of No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
