The project stars Chloe East and Celeste Octavia and is produced by the Grammy-winning rapper and his pgLang partner Dave Free, with South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

“We’re doing a movie with Kendrick, with Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free and their company,” explained Parker last year, the outlet noted. “And we’re working on it and hopefully come out July 4 weekend opposite Jurassic Park, which is pretty funny.”

He continued, “[Kendrick Lamar is] very involved. And Dave Free is very involved. Every day they are working on it.”

The film was first announced in January 2022 and described as a live-action comedy that will “depict the past and present coming to a head when a young Black man, who is interning as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum, discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.”

According to Variety, the film was written by Vernon Chatman, who also works on South Park as a writer, producer, and voice actor.

“This script is one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read and it’s certain to create some fireworks,” shared Paramount CEO Brian Robbins.
