Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi finally took the stand in the federal sex trafficking trial against Sean “Diddy” Combs on Thursday (May 22), adding insight about his own harrowing experiences with the disgraced Hip-Hop icon and then ex-girlfriend, Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura.
Dressed in a black leather jacket, white t-shirt, and light blue jeans, the “Pursuit of Happiness” rapper entered the courtroom, having just finished smoking a cigarette, to deliver his testimony.
Last week, Cassie took the stand, revealing shocking and gruesome details about her past relationship with Diddy — including a 2011 cheating scandal involving the rapper, actor, and producer. According to the “Me & U” singer’s lawsuit, Combs became violent upon discovering their relationship, even allegedly threatening to blow up Cudi’s car during Paris Fashion Week in 2012.
Not long after, Cudi’s car did indeed burn in his driveway, but he hasn’t spoken about the incident in-depth, until now.
Take a look below as VIBE shares key takeaways from Cudi’s testimony, as the case continues to unfold.

Cudi was blindsided by Diddy and Cassie’s ongoing relationship
Image Credit: John Lamparski/Getty Images Kid Cudi testified that while he first met Cassie at an event in 2008, they didn’t begin dating until 2011. At that point, he admitted that Cassie confided in him about Diddy’s alleged physical abuse. However, he was unaware that the two were still in a relationship when he began dating her.
Cudi also detailed a time Cassie called him to inform him that Diddy had found out about their relationship and asked him to come pick her up. Once she was with him, Cudi said he took her to the Sunset Marquis to keep her safe, but there, she received a call informing them that Diddy and an associate of his were at his home. The call came from Capricorn Clark, Combs’ employee.

Cudi attested to Cassie “playing” both him and Diddy
Image Credit: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Kid Cudi agreed to feeling “played” by Cassie when asked if he thought she had been deceiving both him and Diddy. Defense attorney Brian Steele further inquired whether Cassie had been leading a double life, to which Cudi confirmed, stating that she had indeed been living in two worlds.
Cudi explained that, given the escalating drama and complications surrounding their interactions, he and Cassie mutually agreed to distance themselves from each other. “The situation had become too chaotic, and we decided it was best to give her some space,” he testified, concluding his testimony.

Diddy allegedly broke into Cudi’s Hollywood Hills home and was “waiting for him”
Image Credit: Astrid Stawiarz/Getty Images for Variety Kid Cudi also spoke on Diddy allegedly breaking into his Hollywood Hills home following him finding out about Cudi dating Cassie. The Grammy-winning rapper recalled Diddy calmly calling to confront him about the fresh relationship
“He said, ‘What’s up?’” Cudi recalled during his testimony. “I responded, ‘Motherf**ker, are you in my house?’ He said, ‘I’m here waiting for you.’” Cudi admitted that he wanted to wanted to fight the Bad Boy co-founder, but refrained from doing so because he didn’t know who Diddy might have with him.

Cudi addresses his Porsche fire and meeting up with “Marvel supervillain” Diddy
Image Credit: Tim P. Whitby/Getty Images Cudi shared that in 2012, while he was approximately 45 minutes away from home, he received a call from his dog sitter informing him that his Porsche had caught fire in his driveway. Upon rushing back, Cudi was sent photographs showing the top of his car open, with evidence suggesting a Molotov cocktail had been thrown inside.
The prosecution presented these images in court, prompting Cudi to offer his account. To note, Cassie revealed in her testimony prior that Diddy had threatened both her and Cudi, allegedly expressing his desire to set Cudi’s car ablaze in his driveway. She added that Diddy made it clear that the act would not be carried out by him directly and that he would not be in the country when it occurred.
Cudi also shared that he met with Diddy at a hotel following the incident because he suspected Diddy’s involvement in the arson. The defense, however, objected to this as mere speculation, and the judge subsequently struck his response from the record. Reflecting on the encounter, Cudi described his meeting with Diddy at a Los Angeles hotel, where the “All About The Benjamins” artist was already present, gazing out of a window with his hands clasped behind his back. Cudi described Diddy’s aura as a “Marvel supervillain.”

Diddy gave Cudi an unspecified “general” apology years later
Image Credit: Monica Schipper/Getty Images Cudi explained that he and Diddy shook hands after meeting at the hotel, and when he once again asked about his Porsche being set ablaze, Diddy allegedly played ignorant to the incident. He said Diddy then asked if they were “cool,” to which Cudi retorted. Several years later, the rapper recounted Diddy offering him a broad, albeit apology for past events — a gesture that caught him entirely off guard. However, he never specifically apologized about the car.
