Acting Health Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane didn’t mince her words on Friday morning.

While addressing the media on the pandemic and the vaccine rollout plans, she made it very clear that the situation in Gauteng is dire.

“If you look at the rate of infection currently, you would see that we have actually passed the numbers of the first and second wave in Gauteng and that’s very much worrying for us,” she said.

“What is worrying more as I said in the Portfolio Committee yesterday, is the activities we are seeing around Gauteng, in terms of people still participating in protests, still participating in illegal gatherings because we have we have restricted the gathering from the announcement by the President.”

Meanwhile, the military is being enlisted to help Gauteng fight the third wave of COVID-19.

The province accounts for the majority of new cases, with over 7,500 infections in a single day.
