Kwesta Reflects On His Return To Hip-Hop As He Prepares For “The Big Bro Theory.” After a three-year hiatus from releasing solo projects, South African rap titan Kwesta is ready to reclaim his throne with his forthcoming studio album, The Big Bro Theory. In a recent interview, the award-winning artist reflected on his journey and why fans have waited so long for a new solo effort.

“I can’t believe it’s been 3 years since my last solo project,” Kwesta admitted. “In between, there was the beautiful Speak N Vrostaan. There’s no real reason behind that, to tell the truth. It’s me wanting to try other things in between.”

His experimentation paid off. Kwesta’s collaborative Kwaito album, Speak N Vrostaan, alongside Amapiano sensation and friend Kabza De Small, not only demonstrated his versatility but also earned him a Best SAMA Award. Kwesta proudly acknowledges the achievement: “We put out a Kwaito album and won the Best SAMA for that. So I’m probably the only one that has the best hip hop and the best kwaito.”

But as much as he embraced the Kwaito sound, the urge to return to his hip-hop roots grew stronger. “I had to kinda get back into the raps. I dropped the Speak N Vrostaan during lockdown. After that, Kwesta could come out and kinda be Kwesta.”

According to Kwesta, his reunion with Kabza De Small was essential in sparking his creative resurgence. “When I met up with Kabza, it was really a collaborative spirit,” he said. “And after that, it was like the time for the king to revisit the throne. And that’s why we are here.”

Now, with The Big Bro Theory on the horizon, fans can expect a re-energized Kwesta ready to blend his sharpened lyricism with his signature storytelling. As the industry watches the king’s next move, Kwesta appears poised to once again assert his place at the top.
