Federal agents reportedly part of the ICE raid in Los Angeles took over MacArthur Park on Monday (July 7). KTLA reported that the Department of Homeland Security and military vehicles positioned themselves at the park late Monday morning. At least four white vans—similar to those used by agents to transport people to jails and detention sites— were also spotted in the same area.
Mayor Karen Bass shared footage of the officers on social media and addressed the raids with other local politicians in a press conference.
“Minutes before, there were more than 20 kids playing — then, the MILITARY comes through,” she tweeted. “The SECOND I heard about this, I went to the park to speak to the person in charge to tell them it needed to end NOW. Absolutely outrageous.”
During an afternoon press conference with Bass, City Council member Eunisses Hernandez and Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Bass stated that the raid “was another example of the [Trump] administration ratcheting up chaos by deploying what looked like a military operation in an American city.”
She added, “It’s outrageous and unAmerican that we have federal armed vehicles in our parks when nothing is going on in the parks. It’s outrageous and unAmerican that the federal government seized our state’s National Guard.”

Hernandez later declared, “We will continue to have each other’s backs, and we will continue to demand the immediate withdrawal of federal troops and ICE from our city,” and later called Los Angeles the “canary in a coal mine” for other cities.
Associated Press noted that the raid was “going to be more overt and larger than we usually participate in,” and added that the raid ended abruptly with no explanation.
The outlet reported that The National Guard deployed roughly 90 troops to support the federal agents, but it’s unclear how many people were detained during Monday’s raid.
