The album marks a pivotal moment in LaCabra‘s musical career, serving as his first solo project after years of collaborative work. With raw honesty and humility, he revealed the motivation behind the project and how it came to life.

“Eh, iQhawe Emphakathini umsebenzi wami lowo engiwuthanda kakhulu,” LaCabra begins, explaining his personal connection to the project. “Umsebenzi wokuqala ngingedwa.” In other words, this was the first time he was taking the leap into creating and releasing music on his own, a major step away from his collaborative efforts, particularly with Lowfeye, with whom he’d worked closely since his early musical days.

While LaCabra’s previous work had always been a product of teamwork, iQhawe Emphakathini represents something deeply personal. It’s an album that stands on its own, an expression of his growth as an artist and individual. For LaCabra, this project was not just about making music but about stepping into his own as an artist with a distinct voice.

“This was like an opportunity to say okay, let me drop and see what happens, ngingedwa ngizwe ukuthi abantu banganizwa kanjani,” he continues, explaining that releasing the album was a chance to gauge the public’s response to his sound without the safety net of collaboration. The decision to drop the album came with no formal rollout, no build-up—just a quiet release into the world.

Despite the unorthodox approach, LaCabra was taken aback by the love the album received. “And ey abantu wayithanda,” he says, a genuine surprise in his voice as he reflects on the overwhelming response. Fans embraced the rawness of the album, which speaks to LaCabra’s authenticity and willingness to push boundaries in his music. The album’s success serves as a testament to LaCabra’s talent and the trust he placed in his artistry.

Looking back, it’s clear that the album wasn’t just a moment in time; it was a defining one. And for LaCabra, it’s just the start of what’s sure to be a long and fruitful journey ahead in the music industry.
