Late Neymar Goal Sees PSG Beat Lyon

Neymar has scored in his first two league appearances per season in all three of his Ligue 1 campaigns

Neymar scored another late winner as French champions Paris St-Germain edged past Lyon to move three points clear at the top of Ligue 1.

The Brazil forward skilfully swivelled in the box and fired into the bottom corner with three minutes remaining to break the hosts’ resistance.

Neymar had been booed by his own fans before scoring a 92nd-minute winner against Strasbourg last weekend.

He missed PSG’s first five games as he tried to force a return to Barcelona.

But, back in the PSG team after missing their 3-0 Champions League win over Real Madrid due to a three-match European suspension, the 27-year-old continued to deliver on the pitch.

“He’s 100% with us,” said PSG boss Thomas Tuchel. “He laughs, he is reliable, he is completely there with his team-mates.

“This is only his third match in four months. He is not yet 100% and he will do better. He will gain in physical capacity with the matches and this will help him.”

Lyon had goalkeeper Anthony Lopes to thank as they remained in the contest, with the Portuguese producing outstanding saves from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Neymar as PSG recorded 21 shots at goal.

However, Lopes was left helpless as Neymar – swarmed by defenders – produced a moment of quality as his side made it five successive victories and as many clean sheets since a surprise defeat by Rennes in August.

“Neymar will gain in physical capacity with the matches and this will help him,” added Tuchel. “He is always decisive, he is always creative and he looks ahead.”
