Latto – “Somebody”
Image Credit: 2025 Gamebread, LLC / EMPIRE Latto is one of the best today at flipping classic samples. “Somebody” reimagines Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody” into a hard-hitting yet endearing record that could make serious moves this upcoming summer.
The Georgia Peach flips between melody and bars with ease, displaying a continued refinement in pure songmaking ability. There are catchy nuances, “I’m that girl” energy, and lover DNA oozing all throughout this track.
The new rap girlies may bring the bars or they may bring the sensual dispositions, but Latto excels at doing both consistently. “Somebody” is a gem and will likely soundtrack many TikToks and Instagram stories moving forward. – Armon Sadler

Bossman Dlow Featuring Gucci Mane – “Hit”
Image Credit: 2025 Alamo Records, LLC/Sony Music Entertainment Bossman Dlow is back with “Hit” and he tapped an Atlanta legend in Gucci Mane. The record doesn’t deviate much from Port Salerno, Fla. rapper’s formula: midtempo, drums, hi-hats, and the same flow.
It works and it’s enjoyable, but Dlow is right on the brink of getting a bit boring. It’s time to see him evolve his sound a bit. Nonetheless, this beat was perfect for Guwop to get his flow and funny bars off.
The hook is also pretty enjoyable and easy to remember, so this track could have some motion but ultimately it’ll be hard to distinguish from all of Dlow’s other songs. – AS

2 Chainz & Lil Yachty – “Sista Wives”
Image Credit: 2025 Gamebread, LLC / EMPIRE 2 Chainz and Lil Yachty’s “Sista Wives” is an intergenerational linkup where the two rap freely.
There is a nice chemistry here, with the Atlanta wordsmiths going back and forth and mimicking each other’s flows. Though they normally excel at memorable punchlines and humorous bars, there wasn’t all that much here.
The title and concept would normally be a layup for them, but the entertainment they usually deliver was lacking, perhaps due to this song being for a short film.
Nonetheless, the production is good, and they both have sharp flows. It’ll be interesting to see how this record is used in Red Clay. – AS

Farrah Fawx – ‘But Did You Die’
Image Credit: 2025 Fawx Records Farrah Fawx is making some of the most fun music today. Her six-song EP But Did You Die displays her lyrical mettle if you just want to talk rap, but it is also a firm statement that she cannot be boxed in.
“Slippery” and “Chop Chop” incorporate elements of house, electronic music, and pop, making the conversation less about what to classify her artistry as and more about how many Grammy categories she will eventually be dominating.
Guest appearances Carly Gilbert, Miraa May, and Devin Tracy join this dynamic auditory experience, adding more color to the unique canvas Fawx has created; May especially stands out on “Who Do You Call.”
Overall, But Did You Die has so much replay value and is refreshing in this music landscape that often feels very linear. – AS

Benji Blue Bills Featuring Duki – “Down Girl”
Image Credit: 2025 Benji Blue Bills, BNYX, and Duki brought the warm weather vibes on “Down Girl.”
The production is island-inspired, with heavy drums and spacy synths. Benji’s flow is smooth and the content focusing on women was fitting.
Duki slides in, getting his bars off in Spanish which presents nice variance on the record. It is vocally strong all around. This has summer bop written all over it, so long as it is marketed right.
This may sound obvious and overdone, but the right TikTok dance trend could take “Down Girl” to the moon. All of you creators better get to work! – AS

Snoop Dogg – ‘Iz It A Crime?’
Image Credit: ℗ 2025 Death Row Records / gamma.
Snoop Dogg’s Iz It a Crime? is a confident, stylish reminder that the West Coast legend still knows how to command a record with effortless cool.
The album opens with a bold, smoky flip of Sade’s classic—setting the tone for a project that blends nostalgia with new energy. With standout assists from Pharrell on the bouncy “Spot” and Wiz Khalifa on “Just the Way It Iz,” Snoop also spotlights rising talents like LaRussell and JANE HANDCOCK.
Backed by production from heavyweights like Rick Rock and Battlecat, this one’s among the week’s most rewarding listens. – Preezy Brown

Little Simz – “Young”
Image Credit: Little Simz Little Simz’s new single “Young,” the third offering from her upcoming album Lotus, is a captivating blend of introspection and ambition that only she could deliver with such precision.
Over a textured, genre-blurring production, Simz flexes her lyrical sharpness while reflecting on growth, purpose, and legacy. It’s a striking preview of what Lotus promises to be—especially with a lineup of collaborators like Sampha, Yussef Dayes, and Michael Kiwanuka in the mix.
With UK arena dates now confirmed for this fall, “Young” is a timely reminder that Simz is operating on a whole new level—and listeners would be wise to tune in. – PB

Rome Streetz, Conductor Williams – “Rule 4080”
Image Credit: Mass Appeal Rome Streetz and Conductor Williams set the tone for their upcoming collab project Trainspotting with “Rule 4080,” a gritty, razor-sharp track that echoes A Tribe Called Quest’s timeless warning: “Industry Rule #4080, record company people are shady.”
Over Williams’ cinematic, soul-splintered production, Rome unloads venomous bars with surgical precision, making it clear he’s not here to play industry games.
With its raw energy and layered homage, “Rule 4080” is a compelling drop—and a bold preview of what’s to come when Trainspotting lands on May 30. – PB
