LaVar Ball has underwent a life-altering surgery due to a “serious medical issue.” On Feb. 19, TMZ reported the father of Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo had his foot amputated.
After the successful procedure that resulted in the removal of his right foot, the outlet shared the Big Baller Brand founder “is in great spirits and doing well.” No family members have commented on the news and no further details about the surgery are available at this time.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, the athletic businessman played basketball and football throughout his life. He suited up for Cal State-Los Angeles and also spent time with the New York Jets and Carolina Panthers organizations.
The 57-year-old is best known for being the patriarch of the Ball family, as he often made headlines for his bold and confident claims about his three sons. In a previous Vlad TV interview, he spoke about his reputation of being a present father who “sacrificed so much” for his kids, as he explains his decision to invest into his sons was ultimately a choice that paid off in the long run.
“What people don’t understand is, I ain’t ‘giving up’ nothing. Sacrifices I made? None. I had these kids,” he said. “‘Cause I wanted them. Me picking my wife, investing in my sons instead of buying real estate, I’m investing millions of dollars into my sons… I got three lotto tickets. I just ain’t cash ’em in yet. All my boys are millionaires.” Watch the full interview below.
His affirmations eventually came to fruition, as all three of his boys made it to the NBA and are living out their basketball dreams. Lonzo is a point guard for the Chicago Bulls while LaMelo is on the Charlotte Hornets’ roster. LiAngelo had a brief stint with the Detroit Pistons in late 2020, but is now focusing on his blossoming career as a rapper. His latest hit “Tweaker” debuted at the top of 2025 and took off, subsequently spawning a remix with Lil Wayne and earning him a performance slot at All-Star weekend.
